Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever. –Psalm 136
But what about when things are going wrong in every direction I face?
Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever.
But what about when the government is corrupt or seems out of control?
Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever.
But what about when the storms come and I lose everything that I own?
[Give thanks] to Him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever.
But what about when the earth seems to be crumbling under our feet?
[Give thanks to Him] who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever. Who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever.
Who made the great lights…the sun to govern the day…the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.
But what about when I’m sinking into depression, anger, grief, or despair?
Give thanks. He remembered us in our low estate…and freed us from our enemies.
His love endures forever. He gives food to every creature. His love endures forever.
But why should I give thanks?
Give thanks to the God of heaven. HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER.
No matter what your struggle is, God’s love endures forever. He has not abandoned you. He has not forgotten you. You are not alone in your struggle. He has promised to never leave you or forsake you. Are you struggling with a heavy burden? Cast your cares upon Him, for He cares for you. (Deut. 31:6; 1 Pet. 5:7; Psalm 55:22)
There are plenty of times when we do not feel very thankful…but we need to thank Him anyway. A thankful heart focuses on His blessings and promises. When we are focused on thanking Him despite our circumstances, those circumstances move to the background, and we begin to see the hand of God work in our lives. It’s not that He wasn’t working before, it’s that our focus is on that work, and we actually see His hand moving in our lives. Above all, He is WORTHY of our praise. He is the King of Kings, and nothing on earth is out of His control. Trust Him and thank Him for His mercy, His love, His wisdom, and His grace.
