This message isn’t just for the men in our church—it’s for the entire body of Christ.
If you’re a man, I encourage you to receive these words with an open heart.
If you’re a woman, I ask that you hear these truths and help encourage and support the men as they step into their God-given roles.
This blog, titled “Men of God,” was inspired by our recent men’s breakfast. One thing we clearly see today is that men are under attack by the enemy. We even had to begin our conference by asking the simple question: “What is a man?” Sadly, in today’s culture, that question often goes unanswered. The world has distorted and weaponized the definition of true, biblical manhood. It breaks my heart to see so many young boys growing up without knowing what it means to be a man of God.
True, biblical manhood is not something inherited—it’s something you step into.
Just being male doesn’t make you a man. There are plenty of 40-year-old boys who can shave but still haven’t embraced the responsibility and calling of manhood. The Bible is clear that a true man is known by his actions, responsibilities, and obedience to God’s Word.
We’ll touch on just a few of the principles we discussed during our men’s breakfast—some of my personal favorites.
1. A Man is a Leader
Whether you’re quiet, behind the scenes, or non-confrontational, you are still called to lead.
Some men will lead only their families; others may lead coworkers, entire companies, churches, or small groups. Regardless of where you’re placed, the calling remains the same—you are meant to lead.
1 Peter 5:1–4 tells the men of God to shepherd those under their care—not out of obligation or dominance, but willingly and by example. Most importantly, it reminds us that there is a Chief Shepherd—Jesus Christ—whom we all follow.
Men, remember this: our leadership must mirror Christ’s leadership.
The Bible teaches that men are to lead like Jesus leads the Church, and women are to respond as the Church responds to Christ. This doesn’t make men better, nor does it make us Jesus. Instead, it reveals God’s divine order and design for the family and the Church.
A man’s role is to lead—but to lead by following Jesus.
We follow His example, His humility, and His authority. True leadership is never domineering or self-serving. It focuses first on how we follow Christ, knowing that when we follow well, we will lead well.
2. A Man is Sacrificial
This calling isn’t popular, but it’s one of my favorites.
Men are called to be sacrificial.
Some women may struggle to let a man make difficult sacrifices, but I encourage you to see it through God’s eyes. When a man sacrifices for his family or his wife, it brings joy to the heart of God because he is walking in his divine calling of being a man.
Ephesians 5:25 commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church—and Christ gave everything for the church. That is the model of true manhood.
Men, don’t view sacrifice as a burden; see it as a beautiful opportunity to be more like Jesus.
When I get to make a difficult sacrifice for my family, it brings me joy now because I know how proud this makes God and I can start to see how much it makes me like my Lord Jesus. It’s an honor to lay down my life for those I’m called to lead.
Sometimes sacrifice means missing the Eagles game.
Sometimes it means losing sleep to work through an argument instead of going to bed angry.
Sometimes it looks like showing up every day to a hard job so your family can have stability.
Whatever your sacrifice looks like, know this—God sees you, and He’s proud of you.
Don’t live for human recognition. When we crave appreciation from people, we open the door to bitterness. When our boss doesn’t appreciate me, or my wife doesn’t care, or my kids are ungrateful for what I do. All these statements come from a living for people mindset.
Remember, to be a Man of God means to be after His heart first. When we live like God is the only opinion that matters it helps us endure the thankless moments and the seasons of no recognition because I remember that this is not for them but done for my father. I can sleep well knowing that I have pleased Him with my actions, and that encourages me to continue to live a life of example.
Being a Man of God means being a man after God’s heart.
Prayer
Lord, I pray for every man reading this.
May they step boldly into the calling You’ve placed on their lives.
Free them from the need for applause or recognition, and teach them to live for You alone.
Help us to sacrifice our desires for Yours—to focus more on Kingdom work than personal agendas.
Strengthen us to love our wives, father our children, and be pillars in Your Church.
I also lift up every woman reading this. Teach them what it means to be a woman of God.
Fill their hearts with love and support for the men You’ve placed in their lives.
Unite us all in Christ Jesus, and let everything we do bring glory to Your name.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
